Why is it that most massage practitioners in the United States don't include breasts in their full body massage sessions?
Because it is not often taught at all, or taught in a comfortable way that normalizes it into a standard part of your work.
And, because despite the fact that we see nudity and sexualization of female breasts everywhere we turn in the media, we also live in a prudish culture that is uncomfortable with nudity of the female breasts.
However, the breasts are an important, amazing part of our body, that can create and provide complete nourishment for a baby! When breasts are restrained in underwire bras constantly, women develop fibrous tissue under the wires, and have restricted lymphatic flow from the constant compression, leading to any number of health concerns.
In this class we will learn the A&P of breast tissue, normalize touching breasts from a therapeutic standpoint, and discuss ways of easily adding this to your practice. We will cover informed consent release forms, and practice sidelying and semi-reclining approaches to incorporating healthy breast massage into our sessions.
We will address common breast concerns:
NOTE: This class does NOT cover techniques for cancer, mastectomy or lymphectomy recovery.
In states where breast massage is not within the scope of practice, we can still discuss benefits and precautions and self-massage techniques that can be taught to clients, to support breast health.
